DEFENDING CHAMPION : 2011 Winner Phil Taylor
Luck of the Irish in this Tournament !!
The darts format is short in the opening rounds which leads to any player who hasn't got that lucky 4 leaf clover nearby falling at the first hurdle and out in the first round which happens now every year with phil taylor now being a casualty 3 times in 2001 (kevin painter), 2004 (andy callaby) and 2007 (adrian gray), the only years he hasn't won the event - other than 2010 where his pupil Adrian Lewis beat Phil Taylor 5 sets to 4 sets in the Semi-Final.
First 9 Dart Finish in the World Grand Prix was by Brendan Dolan in 2011.
Alan 'ice-man' warriner, Colin 'jaws' Lloyd and James Wade are the other darts players to have won the Tournament.
