Larry Butler won the first final of this event in 1994 winning 16 legs to 12 defeating Dennis 'The Menace' Priestley. There has only been 6 different winners of this tournament including the latest and best young stars James '009' Wade. Since the beginning from 1994 till 2008 the stage has been a home to the greatest dart player of all time winning the final of the World MatchPlay in Blackpool no fewer than 9 times !! PHIL TAYLOR will began the defence of his Stan James World Matchplay title at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. |
